Digital BackOffice Hosts Exchange Service for New Haven Public Schools

New Haven Public Schools has completed the transfer of staff and administrator email accounts to the Digital BackOffice Hosted Exchange service.   After awarding the contract to Digital BackOffice earlier this year, technicians from both organizations completed the transfer of existing user accounts and stored mail without interruption of service.  “Successful software migrations are transparent to the users”, said Kevin Moriarty, NHPS IT Department Manager, “and the transfer of several thousand email accounts to Digital BackOffice was completed in June, a busy month for teachers and administrators.”

“Microsoft Exchange 2010 includes calendars, contacts, distribution lists and is used to distribute documents as mail attachments”, said Will Clark, Chief Operation Officer for New Haven Public Schools, “24×7 access from mobile devices, is critical to the operation of this school district.  Digital BackOffice was awarded this contract because of their experience with similar K-12 school districts, a knowledgeable support staff and their impressive data center facility located here in Connecticut.”

Costs for the network will be substantially offset through the use of E-rate discounts. E-rate is a national funding program that evolved from the Telecommunications Act of 1996, and supports Internet and telecommunications services in public schools and libraries. It is anticipated that the E-rate program will fund approximately 90% of the annual cost of operating New Haven Public Schools messaging service.

The Digital BackOffice is no stranger to the public sector, having successfully deployed managed and cloud based IT services for Stamford Public Schools, the City of Norwalk, Achievement First Charter Schools, Seymour, Meriden, Trumbull, and many other Connecticut schools and businesses.  By focusing on education  and small to medium business opportunities the Digital BackOffice has redefined user expectations for cloud services, cost of ownership and project management.

The Digital BackOffice is a business unit of Advanced Corporate Networking, a Connecticut based business incorporated in 1991.  “By specializing in niche markets, like K-12 education, we develop expertise and an understanding of the needs of similar customers”, said Catherine Gunther, a Vice President at Advanced Corporate Networking.  “Many K-12 school IT networks have grown to the size of large corporations, but the ratio of support personnel to computer systems is less by a factor of ten.  The Digital BackOffice helps our schools and communities bridge the IT support gap and many services qualify for the federal E-rate program”.
