Dogfood, Cyber Security and Digital BackOffice

Several blogs ago, I ask the question, how do you differentiate one IT reseller from another?  How do you distinguish one cyber security service from another?   The answer, ask the vendor salesperson, do you eat your own dogfood?

Best of breed technology vendors like Microsoft, HP and Cisco are integral to Digital BackOffice data centers, customer infrastructure and our employee’s knowledge and experience. Selecting other vendor products (outside of the Big 3), has been largely customer driven as the marketplace for managed services continues to replace the premise based IT model of own and manage.  Digital BackOffice has introduced hosted VOIP, hosted Exchange, managed optical Ethernet and managed Wi-Fi, with selected vendors such as Broadview, Aerohive, Lightower and Ruckus.

DBO managed services are offered with service level guarantees (including financial penalties), therefore new technology partners are selected cautiously, after products are first installed in DBO data centers, offices, or customer sites and tested in production environments. Hence the expression, “eating our own dogfood.”

Recent additions to the DBO managed service line card are the result of customer requests for private cloud computing and for shoring up defenses against cyberattacks and threats to network security. The Whac-A-Mole approach to cyber security is no longer effective as data is distributed across both premise based and cloud systems and common end-user applications represent increased security risks.

Our ACN/DBO engineering team has installed the Palo Alto Networks Next Generation firewall to protect the DBO Internet gateway and our customer data. “The performance has exceeded our expectations”, said Francis Palacio, President of Advanced Corporate Networking.  “Achievement First, a New Haven based charter school network, reports that bandwidth utilization has improved as the Palo Alto is blocking command and control traffic generated by bots and other types of malware”.

Palo Alto Networks Next Generation Firewall product line is now offered for resale and as a DBO Netwatch managed service either premise based or cloud based. For further information or to schedule a demonstration, contact sales@digitalbackoffice.com or call 203-874-5545 Ext. 118
